Toowoomba workers bungle burglars' plans

TWO would-be thieves were thwarted by the quick and co-operative work by employees of a Toowoomba business and local police.

Detective Sergeant Tony Morris of Toowoomba Criminal Investigation Branch said employees had turned up for work at an Easternwell work yard in Toowoomba's western suburbs about 6.15am yesterday to find two intruders.

The two men had allegedly broken into the premises a short time earlier with the intention of stealing property.

"Police were called and were on the scene quickly," Det. Sgt Morris said.

Two Toowoomba men aged 36 and 33 respectively were soon arrested by police and charged with breaking and entering the premises.

They were both held in custody in the Toowoomba Police Station watch house last night following their arrest.

Each of the men charged is due to appear before the Toowoomba Magistrates Court this morning where police were expected to object to their respective applications for bail.
