Why the council drained Kingaroy swimming pool
THE South Burnett Regional Council has drained the main pool at the WJ Lang Memorial Olympic Pool to find the source of a leak which has left the pool unusable.
Mayor Keith Campbell said council staff have worked tirelessly to identify and fix the problem.
"Various research has been done on every aspect leading to the pool in terms of checking pipes, checking values, checking floats," Cr Campbell said.
"It's a fairly complicated process and our own staff have worked incredibly hard over Christmas period, including on Christmas Day and New Year's Day, to bring this to conclusion."
For about the past month a stream of water has been leaking into the pool and diluting the chlorine levels.
Emptying the pool was the last resort.
"When it's known where the water is coming in from council will be able to deal with it," he said.
"We apologise for the delay but we weren't in a position to allow people to use the pool knowing the issue of the balance of chlorine."
In the meantime, the Nanango and Wondai pools will honour season passes bought in Kingaroy.
"I know we've had some very hot weather working diligently to fix the problem," Cr Campabell said.
"Hopefully within the next 48 hours council should be in a position to advise when the pool will reopen."
