COUNCIL NEWS: Credit card for mayor, land on offer and more

Land for sale

SOUTH Burnett Regional Council will offer the sale of 12 William St, Hivesville, by tender and revenue from the sale of the council-owned land to be used for future capital expenditure programs.

The council will also offer the sale of a large industrial piece of land at 2 Kemp St, Wondai, by tender for industrial development

The sale is to support industrial development in the region and economic development.

Credit card for mayor

SOUTH Burnett Mayor Keith Campbell has been granted a corporate credit card to make it easier to claim work expenses.

The council's CEO Mark Pitt said there were very strict rules around the card and it would reduce the time it currently took to process reimbursements.

Grant applications

SOUTH Burnett not-for-profit organisations are encouraged to apply for council's community grants program.

Round one applications will be open from August 1-31, and funds will be available for community event sponsorship, school student awards, community hall insurance grants, Regional Arts Development Fund, healthy communities sponsorship and one-off sponsorship for projects or programs.

Funds for Drug Action Team

THE South Burnett Local Drug Action Team has been granted $10,000 to develop a community action plan in consultation with the Alcohol and Drug Foundation.

The plan aims to increase community capacity and awareness about the risks associated with alcohol assumption during pregnancy.

The plan will target key local service providers who engage with pregnant women, their partners, family and friends to promote appropriate resources and evidence-based programs.

The next stage is to submit the plan to the Alcohol and Drug Foundation for further funding of up to $30,000 available in 2019/20.

Checks for dog registrations

THE council's compliance staff may attend properties between 9am and 5pm on weekdays to ensure all dogs are registered in line with the Animal Management Act 2008.

This will continue until Friday, November 29 as part of the systematic inspection program.

Show holidays

SOUTH Burnett residents will continue to celebrate the show holiday on the second Monday in August in 2020.

Residents will enjoy a public holiday on August 10 this year and August 12 in 2020.
