Council selling land to ease budget
SOUTH Burnett Regional Council has moved to sell a number of properties it owns in a bid to reduce ongoing budget pressures.
A block of land on the corner of the Mundubbera-Durong Rd and Chinchilla-Wondai Rd will go under the hammer in the coming months.
It was previously used as tick clearing dip stockyard and a truck rest area.
Property portfolio holder Councillor Terry Fleischfresser said there was a need for fuel at the intersection, and he wanted to see someone build a fuel cell situated on the land.
"I see this one as a really good opportunity for that part of the shire to gain some much-needed infrastructure,” Cr Fleischfresser said.
Deputy Mayor Kathy Duff agreed.
"The (fuel) shop has shut on the corner and if it goes ahead it will be a great asset for the community,” she said.
A vacant industrial block at 1 Fleming St, Nanango is also up for sale.
Both plots will go to tender and if there are no takers the council will lease the land.
The council also will sell vacant residential blocks.
Cr Fleischfresser said the properties would be good investments.
