Council to take away Yarra love locks

Julian Smithaap

THE Melbourne City Council has decided to remove 20,000 "love locks" from the Southbank foot bridge after they were deemed a safety risk.

The padlocks were hung as a symbol of couples' love.

Couples also throw the keys into the Yarra River and the council reportedly said the estimated 40,000 keys posed an environmental risk.
