Cowboys rope the Eels with last-minute try

EMOTIONS ran high for The North Queensland Cowboys who pipped the Parramatta Eels at the post in Sydney with a late try to Brent Tate for a four-point win on what was an emotional day for team members.

To honour Elisala, the club's forward pack taped their heads in the same way style Elisala did played with as a tribute to their friend and , while both teams stood took part in an impeccable minute's silence for a minute before the match.

Later, Cowboys skipper Johnathan Thurston admitted his "heart was in his mouth" when the Toutai try which won them the game was being viewed upstairs, but praised his teammates' courage following a difficult week.

"It's been a very tough week for everyone involved," Thurston said.

"It's very hard to focus on footy when you have those tragic circumstances. But credit to our boys, they did a great effort tonight.

"They hung in there. They did everything that was asked of them during the week at training, preparation.

"Under the circumstances I'm just totally proud of them."

The win puts the Cowboys into the top eight.
