CAUGHT: Kenneth Cook was captured in Western Australia

MONTHS after police launched a nation wide manhunt for fugitive Kenneth Robert Cook, authorities today arrested the former Central Queensland man in Western Australia.

In August, Cook, 47, was named as part of Australian Federal Police's most wanted list of 20 fugitives suspected of serious crimes such as murder, assault, armed robbery, rape and drug trafficking.

He was also wanted under Queensland Police's Operation Roam, which focused on suspects who had most likely fled interstate.

It is alleged he committed a series of sexual assaults in Central Queensland between 1996 and 2002.

WA Police Media officer Susan Usher said Kalgoorlie police acted on information received from a member of the public in making yesterday's arrest.

"(Police) apprehended a 47-year-old man who is wanted by Queensland Police in relation to historic child sexual offences," she said.

"The man is currently in custody and will appear in the Kalgoorlie Magistrates Court (on Thursday), pending extradition to Queensland."

Western Australia media reported Cook had been doing handyman jobs around the region and went by the name "Rob". said he may have used at least two different aliases during his time in the Kalgoorlie-Boulder area.

A Queensland Police spokesperson said Cook was yet to be charged under Queensland law and was expected to arrive in Brisbane next week.
