Crackdown on price scanning practices

SUPERMARKETS and retailers are being put on notice by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) ahead of a state-wide compliance operation on price scanning and unit pricing representations.

Fair Trading acting executive director Tony Johnson said similar operations had found a number of non-compliant businesses.

"Most businesses do the right thing and have processes in place to ensure the price at the checkout matches the displayed or advertised price," he said.

"But where businesses are repeatedly getting it wrong, OFT can and will take corrective action."
