UPDATE: Woman sexually assaulted after leaving nightclub

1PM UPDATE: Police are calling for public assistance after a woman was sexually assaulted after she left Viper Nightclub in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Hervey Bay police Detective Inspector David Briese said the woman, 41, had left Viper Nightclub about 1am and was walking along the beachfront area between Tavistock and Bideford streets when she was attacked.

The Brisbane woman went to the Hervey Bay Police Station on Thursday morning and made the complaint.

She was believed to be in the area visiting friends.

Insp Briese said the woman was attacked by a man.

"We believe there may have been two other males present," he said.

One of the man is described as tall and muscular with tattoos.

Police are reviewing CCTV footage of the area.

9AM UPDATE: Two crime scenes have been established at Torquay after a sexual assault on Thursday morning.

Police tape has been put up outside the Hervey Bay Sailing Club and near Aquavue Cafe.

Forensic officers are also at the scene.

EARLIER: Police are investigating a sexual assault at a Torquay beach in the early hours of this morning.

Maryborough Criminal Investigation Branch Detective Senior Constable Glen Dehnert said a crime scene had been set up at the beach.

The victim was a 41-year-old woman.

Police are investigating.
