Horror crash victim 'lucky to survive': Critical care doctor

UPDATE 3:30PM: The critical care doctor tasked with the transport of a young man involved in a horror crash at Beerburrum this morning says he is "lucky to be alive".

The man had rolled at "high-speed" and into a ditch, sustaining serious injuries.

Multiple emergency services crews worked to free the man, 30, who was pinned to the wreckage by the steering wheel and dashboard for almost an hour.

LifeFlight's Dr Paul Baker said the driver several serious injured and was transported to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital in a stable condition.

"The driver did a pretty good job, was pretty well pinned in and yes he is lucky to have escaped," Dr Baker said.

"He predominant sustained an open ankle fracture, bilateral arm fractures and a pelvic fracture.

"The man did not appear to have any head injuries but he will be very sore and stiff."

It was a busy morning for the LifeFlight team who earlier that day transported a five-year-old Gympie girl who was struck by a car after exiting a school bus.
