Dance Academy fundraiser reminds kids of their value
NEW YEAR'S Eve was the perfect date to hold an all-inclusive fundraising event for our local dancers.
From 6pm, the Kingaroy Trade Hall in the Showgrounds hosted a well-awaited 90s party to fundraise for 24 Kingaroy Dance Academy students to perform in America this year.
Deb Hannessen, president of the fundraising committee, had high hopes for the event's turn out.
"This event is trying to raise some funds for a group of kids from Kingaroy Dance Academy to get them to America in 2019,” she said.
"We're hoping overall fundraising will cover a lot of costs. If it can cover the dancers, that would be awesome. Some of the parents do have more than one child going too, so it's double the expense to get there.”
Despite it being a pricey occasion, Mrs Hannessen believes the trip is worthwhile.
"It's a great opportunity for our kids in Kingaroy. I know there's a few children in there that want to continue pursuing dancing as a career option, being dance teachers and studying further, so this is a fantastic experience for them,” she said.
Seeing how great their 90s themed New Year's Eve party looked, Mrs Hannessen believes the children are feeling proud.
"A lot of effort has gone into planning this evening, and you can see the kids are enjoying it already. It's also wonderful for the children to see the support that they're getting, to see how many people are invested in them,” she said.
