Dancers go retro on their way to Disneyland
THERE is no dancing around the fact that there is only one thing keeping the kids from Kingaroy Dance Academy from getting to Disneyland next year.
Money.
The 24-strong South Burnett dancing group have been selected to attend dance workshops late next year throughout the United States including Disneyland and Hawaii.
As excited as all the dancers are for their overseas trip, there is a lot of hard work and fund-raising required to acquire the exorbitant cost of such a trip.
Mother of two of the dancers, Debbie Hannessen will be joining the girls for their once in a lifetime trip.
"Each dancer needs about $5000 to cover flights, accommodation, workshops, costumes and jackets,” she said.
The Kingaroy Dance Academy's first big fund-raising event will be the ultimate 90s game show held on New Year's Eve.
The family event will combine all things nineties, including a game show, trivia, bingo, jumping castles and of course plenty of classic nineties tunes.
"It is a family event everyone can enjoy on New Year's Eve,” Mrs Hannessen said.
The event will be held at the Kingaroy Showgrounds, Trade Hall from 7pm through till midnight to count in the new year.
"We will have a countdown for the younger kids at around 9pm and then again at midnight,” Mrs Hannessen said.
As there are limited numbers, pre-purchasing tickets is encouraged.
