UPDATE: A second teen charged with an alleged attack on a Glenore Grove Schoolie has been released on bail after a fight at Surfers Paradise overnight.
A court has heard an argument over religion spiralled into a physical fight which left the 18-year-old school leaver from Glenore Grove in a coma in hospital.
AAP has reported an argument between the Lockyer Valley teen and two co-accused offenders, aged 17 and 18 from NSW, broke out in Cavill Ave just after midnight.
The 17-year-old NSW accused is alleged to have "king-hit" the Queensland teen who fell to the ground.
The 18-year-old co-accused is then alleged to have kicked him and spat on - a claim he reportedly denies.
Both NSW teens were granted bail and remanded to re-appear in court on January 5.
10.45AM: One of two Schoolies charged with a sickening attack on a Lockyer Valley teenager has been granted bail after a brief appearance in court this morning.
The Southport Magistrate Court heard the 18-year-old offender from NSW punched an unconscious Glenore Grove teenager while he was on the ground before spitting on him in the attack at the Gold Coast shortly after midnight.
News Corp reports the teen - one of two charged with assault over the attack - was bailed because he did not cause the most serious of the injuries.
The court heard a co-accused of the 18-year-old ran at the Glenore Grove teenager and delivered two "king hits" which left him unconscious on the ground in Cavill Ave.
The 18-year-old then allegedly approached the teen and hit him twice, and spat on him.
The Glenore Grove teen regained consciousness, told police he didn't want to make a complaint before his condition worsened and he was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.
He was placed into an induced coma shortly after.
Magistrate Joan White said the teen's injuries were serious but granted the 18-year-old bail after taking into account he did not cause them.
He is due to reappear in court on January 5 on charges of common assault.
His 17-year-old co-accused is due to appear in court later today on more serious charges of grievous bodily harm.
8AM: A Lockyer Valley teenager attending Schoolies on the Gold Coast is in a coma after a sickening attack.
The 18-year-old was punched and knocked out by two teens after an argument at the Cavill Ave Schoolies Hub.
The teenager from Glenore Grove is in a critical condition and in an induced coma at the Gold Coast University Hospital.
The two offenders, a 17 and 18-year-old from New South Wales, will appear in Southport Magistrates Court today.
Police said the incident captured on CCTV and the footage was used by police to track the alleged offenders.
The 18-year-old was charged with two counts of assault, while the 17-year-old was charged with grievous bodily harm.
Police said charges for the second alleged offender may be downgraded because the victim's condition improved in hospital.
The drama started at around 12.05am on Friday with a verbal row between a group of schoolies at Cavill Avenue.
Police said overnight there were 11 male schoolies arrested on 13 charges which were for public nuisance, street and assault offences.
There were also 36 schoolies issued with liquor infringement notices for drinking in a public place.
In relation to non-schoolies overnight police arrested 9 people on 12 charges mainly for public nuisance, street and drug offences with seven non-schoolies receiving liquor infringement notices.
