Darling Downs shivers through coldest morning of the year
THE Darling Downs shivered through its coldest morning of the year today.
Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Lachlan Stoney said the mercury hit -2 in Oakey and Warwick last night.
"Kingaroy was -1.4, Wellcamp -1 and Dalby -0.3," Mr Stoney said.
"Toowoomba was 6 degrees.
"Temperatures are below average for this time of year."
He said this wasn't unusual for May.
"You do get these bursts of cool dry air from time to time," he said.
"Some areas haven't had a May morning this cold since 2016, Kingaroy for example.
"It was the coldest morning of the year, that's what you'd expect moving into winter."
Mr Stoney said the weather would remain dry and sunny until about the middle of the week.
"Morning temperatures will remain a few degrees below average for this time of year all week," he said.
"The first half of the week will be quite sunny, with the maximum about average for this time of year.
"That will change when it gets a bit cloudier from midweek."
He said despite the cloud there would most likely be no significant rainfall for the Downs this week.
