NAPLAN data paints better picture for Aussie schools

NEW DATA reveals there are signs of improvement in the academic performance of schools across the country, the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority says.

The latest NAPLAN data, for 2015, was released yesterday, allowing parents to check how well their children's schools are doing in meeting targets for student achievement.

The release was expanded this year to include eight years of data on all schools, as well as new attendance data.

It showed many schools were improving, some for the second year in a row.

This has been attributed to those schools not "teaching to the test" - a practice that has been criticised in the past.
