VICTORIAN star batsman David Hussey has confirmed his retirement from first-class cricket in an exclusive interview with APN.

The 37-year-old was honoured by Cricket Victoria for his outstanding 12-year career at the Bushrangers' recent end-of-season presentation night.

Hussey amassed a staggering total of 14,280 first-class runs both domestically with Victoria, and abroad, at an average of 52.50.

He represented Australia in 69 one-day internationals, scoring 1796 runs and averaging 32.65.

In Twenty20 internationals, Hussey made 756 runs at an average of 22.91.

While his career never reached the dizzy heights of his famous brother and Australian cricket legend Mike Hussey, David's career is worth honouring.

He did not make his Bushrangers debut until he was 25, which says something about his persistence.

Hussey won four Sheffield Shield titles - including last summer - with Victoria.

He also received the state's four-day and one-day player of the season gongs during his career, and won the Big Bash's League's player of the tournament in 2011/12.

Hussey will continue playing in the BBL with the Melbourne Stars next summer, as vice-captain under newly-named skipper Michael Clarke.

"Cricket Victoria made a collage for me and presented it on the (presentation) night. It was really well done - it had some great pictures of key moments I've had with the Bushrangers, and listed all my achievements," Hussey told APN.

"I was pretty embarrassed about it, but it was very humbling."
