Dental and community health hub coming to Kingaroy
DENTAL services in the South Burnett will receive a $4.4 million boost with the announcement of a major new health building at Kingaroy Hospital.
The Darling Downs Hospital and Health Board committed to fund part of the $4.4 million dental and community health building at the Kingaroy Hospital campus.
DDHHS board chair Mike Horan said a building at the hospital would be refurbished to provide dental training and community health services.
"At our board meeting in Kingaroy on Wednesday I was delighted to announce that $2.27 million from the hospital and health service's operating surplus would be invested in this important facility for the people of the South Burnett," Mr Horan said.
Further funding will come from Griffith University and Queensland Rural Medical Education, which are contributing $1.1 million each.
For patients it means the number of oral health chairs at Kingaroy Hospital will increase to 10 from four.
"The service will support the education and training of up to 10 dental students from Griffith University, building on the successful partnerships between DDHHS and Griffith medical training in Kingaroy," Mr Horan said.
Community health services will also be boosted, with Mr Horan saying the building will host a range of services, including diabetes education, immunisation clinics, child health and breast care.
Tenders for construction on the building have been called and work is scheduled to start later in the year.
