Donations for couple after fire destroys house
DONATIONS have flooded in for a South Burnett couple who lost their home to fire last week.
Since Kylie Siebenhausen and Matt Young's home on Benair Rd was destroyed on Tuesday, people across Australia have helped them get back on their feet.
Close friend Kayla Canavan started a raffle to raise money for Ms Siebenhausen and Mr Young.
"Kylie is like my little sister, we've been close for a few years," Mrs Canavan said.
"I just messaged a few businesses and everybody was happy to donate.
"The generosity from everyone willing to donate has been amazing and overwhelming for Kylie and Matt."
She said the raffle had sold about $400 in tickets since it started on Thursday.
Ms Siebenhausen and Mr Young have also received anonymous donations from South Burnett residents.
"In the time of a crisis everybody seems to pull together," Mrs Canavan said.
The raffle tickets are being sold through a Facebook group.
"It was just easier through social media," she said.
"You've got a broader range and you are able to get it out there."
Warwick woman Tanya Weier has started a gofundme page for the couple, which has raised nearly $2000.
"It's opened my eyes. You've never wish it on anybody, but to see the way people have come together is truly amazing," Mrs Canavan said.
It was the second South Burnett home fire claimed within 24 hours last week.
Mrs Canavan thanked everybody who had donated to the couple, and Sarah Gordon, who had also helped sell tickets.
"It's one of those things, how do you put in words your greatest gratitude," Mrs Canavan said.
The raffle will be drawn in early September.
