Driver pays high price for stolen fuel

A DRIVER who filled up her tank and took off without paying has been fined five times the original value of the fuel.

Oksana Diatchevsky was fined $400 in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on April 15 for unauthorised dealing with shop goods.

Police prosecutor Barry Stevens said she had driven off from Kingaroy Freedom Fuels at 5pm on November 13 last year without paying for $80.46 worth of E10 fuel.

The court heard Diatchevsky had been charged with driving without a licence along Knight St, Kingaroy, on November 13, 2018.

Her licence had been suspended due to the allocation of demerit points.

The defendant, who represented herself, said she was not aware her licence had been suspended due to her change of residential address.

Magistrate Louisa Pink said Diatchevsky's traffic history was full of speeding fines.

"It certainly doesn't surprise me you don't have a licence,” she said.

The court heard she also had three previous convictions for shoplifting.

"You can't just drive off with petrol,” Magistrate Pink said.

She was fined $400 for driving without a licence due to demerit points, and has had her licence disqualified for six months.

Diatchevsky was also ordered to pay Kingaroy Freedom Fuels $80.46.

All convictions were recorded.
