UPDATE: Driver smashes into car with woman, child inside

UPDATE 12.20: Police are continuing to investigate a dangerous driving incident that happened in Maryborough on Tuesday morning.

About 8.30am police received several 000 calls reporting a vehicle being driven dangerously towards Hervey Bay.

A short time later a marked car observed a vehicle matching the description on Gympie Rd turning into Iindah Rd West.

The police activated their emergency lights and sirens in an attempt to intercept it.

The vehicle stopped at a stop sign at roadworks before pulling out of a line of traffic and continuing on, allegedly evading police.

In the process the vehicle clipped another car that was stationary in traffic at the roadworks.

Police stopped to check on the welfare of the people inside the vehicle, a woman and a child.

No one was injured in the incident.

Police then received a report that the vehicle had crashed into a police at the intersection of River Rd and Mclaughin Rd, Maryborough.

Police attended the scene and arrested a man nearby.

Investigations into the incident are continuing.

EARLIER: A MALE driver has been apprehended by police after he was involved in two crashes on Tuesday morning in Maryborough.

Senior Constable Marshal Hoggard said the first crash happened about 8.30am on Iindah Rd in Tinana.

Two vehicles were involved in the incident, with the male driver allegedly leaving the scene of the crash in his car shortly after.

The male driver was then involved in a second crash, this time hitting a power pole on River Road in Maryborough.

Snr Const Hoggard said there had been no serious injuries after either crash.

He said police were still talking to the male driver and investigations were ongoing.
