Drunk driver crashes car into gully: police

POLICE are asking for witnesses to assist in their investigations, after arresting a 25-year-old Mothar Mountain man who they allege crashed a stolen car while drunk into a gully at Kiels Mountain, just north of the Big Pineapple.

The vehicle was reported stolen from Toowoomba on November 17, and was observed by motorists swerving all over the road on the Bruce Highway near Gympie at about 4.20pm on Saturday.

Witness Damien Cummins said the driver almost hit a B double and multiple cars along the way.

"He was traveling over speeds of 120kms, the rear tyre exploded then he finally crashed the stolen car after Nambour exit about 1km north of Big Pineapple exit. Police arrived two to three minutes after he crashed.''

Officers arrested the man after the crash and charged him with a variety of offences, including unlicensed driving, dangerous driving, driving under the influence of liquor and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

He will appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court at 9am on December 19.

Anyone who saw the incident take place is urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
