WITH Toyota's much-anticipated 86 Racing Series just six months away, it was only a matter of time before a special edition road car was released for Australia.
And here it is, the Toyota 86 Blackline Edition, which the company suggested was, "perfect for the red line". Catchy.
It is based on the range-topping 86 GTS and there'll be 450 produced - 250 manual versions and 200 autos - priced from $37,990 and $40,490 respectively - a premium of $2000 over non-Blackline cars.
It scores the Blackline name from the twin black stripes on its roof and bonnet, which Toyota said are accentuated by the model's "white liquid" exterior paint colour.
The cars feature a subtle body kit, gloss black 17-inch alloy wheels and distinctive red highlights in the black interior on the seats, steering wheel, gearshift knob, handbrake lever and door grips.
Body parts have been sourced from Toyota's engineering and motorsport partner TRD, and include front spoiler, side skirts, a three-piece rear spoiler, rear lower bumper and fender garnishes.
The Blackline cars should attract plenty of interest in our market, which has fallen for the 86 sports car since its launch in 2012, with more than 15,600 examples finding homes locally to make it Australia's best-selling sports car.
The limited edition cars are available now.
