Edwards putts away gremlins for Division 1 win
AN AWFUL round of golf the day before could have been the secret to Jan Edwards' success when it counted.
Edwards went from playing a forgettable round in Kingaroy on Saturday to winning the Division 1 net at the Nanango Women's Open Day on Sunday.
"I played an appalling round (in Kingaroy)," Edwards said.
But she turned it around at Nanango, to finish with a 69 net.
Edwards was one of the many Kingaroy members who had success at the open day.
"Kingaroy had a good day because I won the Division 1 and Barb (Whaley) won Division 2," she said.
"Chris Edmunds and I won the teams event."
These wins helped Kingaroy get off to a solid start in the first round of the net and gross pennants.
Edwards put her success down to her putting on Sunday on the greened-up Nanango course.
"I putted well, I had 26 putts," she said.
Division 2 winner Barb Whaley said she was also able to make the most of the good conditions and also finish with a 69 net.
It was not until she handed in her score card she realised how well she had done.
"I actually didn't feel I did that well but the score card told differently," Whaley said.
"It's always nice to have a win first up."
Both Edwards and Whaley will look to extend their club's lead in the next net and gross pennants round at Proston on March 6.
