Elderly driver allegedly drunk, asleep at the wheel
WHEN police received numerous phone calls about an elderly man behaving erratically when shopping in Kingaroy's CBD, they later found him allegedly passed out behind the wheel of his car.
Kingaroy police officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Duane Frank said the man was allegedly seen in an extremely intoxicated state by witnesses, who then saw him get in the car and drive away on December 9.
Snr Sgt Frank said police allege they then found the 75-year-old man asleep behind the wheel of his car in his own driveway, with the keys still in the ignition.
"It was clear to police he had driven from the CBD of Kingaroy to his home residence," he said.
Snr Sgt Frank said the man was allegedly incoherent when he was found.
"He was adversely intoxicated, grossly affected by alcohol," he said.
The man was then taken into custody and arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or a drug.
He will appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court in January.
