ELECTION 2016: Gympie Regional Council Division 6 results

MARCH 30, 6.30PM: DIVISION 6 candidate Hilary Smerdon has defeated incumbent Ray Currie by 17 votes in a shock victory.

Mr Currie had a solid lead after first preferences but it eroded on a second preference count.

MARCH 21, 8.30AM: Preferences will become vital in the Gympie Regional Council Division 6 race.

Incumbent Ray Currie continues to lead the vote on 31.19% with 78.95% of the roll counted.

A second count will be required with all candidates far off reaching a majority on first preferences.

MARCH 20, NOON: Incumbent Ray Currie leads the Division 6 pack in the Gympie Regional Council election.

After 3028 formal votes counted, Cr Currie has 30.25% of the vote.

Eight of 15 booths are currently in for the electorate, or 71.55% of the roll.

Incumbent Mick Curran is set to return as Gympie Regional Council mayor.

Cr Curran has 68.75% of the vote with 22,797 formal votes counted.
