Friday, 4pm: SOUTH Burnett Regional Council has imposed emergency water restrictions the Kingaroy town area.

In a statement the council said the emergency restrictions will apply from 4.00pm Friday 6 October 2017.

"These restrictions are required as the Kingaroy Water Treatment Plant has been without power supply for most of the day. Power has yet to be restored," the council said.

"Council requests that water use is restricted to internal use and essential external use only, such as cleaning of windscreens, pet enclosures or emergency purposes. Watering of gardens and lawns is not permitted.

"When Ergon Energy has restored power to the site and the Water Treatment Plant can begin pumping water to Kingaroy, Council will remove these restrictions.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you in advance for your patience."

The Council has the ability to impose emergency water restrictions under the Water Supply (Safety and Reliability) Act 2008 Chapter 2 Part 3 Division 3 Section 41.
