Encouragement is the key to skateboarders

THE Red Frog Board Riders returned to Gayndah with their special brand of teaching and encouragement after their last visits generated interest.

Gayndah boy Lane Summers has attended the last four visits by the Red Frog Board riders and enjoys it every time.

"They teach us all new stuff and it helps for people in bigger cities to realise we have people out in the country riding and skating as well," Summers said.

"We have a really good park here so it's awesome to have them out here teaching."

Summers said some of the limitations to being in a rural area as a skater or a BMX rider are helped by the Red Frog Board Riders.

"Out hear you learn by your mates where as these guys ride all the time and good to give tips and teach us things we wouldn't have known if they didn't come."

Ryan Claus has been riding with the Red Frog Board Riders for four years now and agrees with the sentiments of Summers.

"You see a real sense of community out here where as in the cities like Brisbane, where we are based, there are just so many skate parks and it's hectic how many people that are there," Claus said.

Claus said he can see the value of what they do.

"Whenever we come here we see familiar faces because we have been here before, it's really good being able to encourage and see different perspectives to what we are used to and give these kids a different perspective," Claus said.

"We are always looking to encourage the kids."

Claus said it was a great feeling to be a part of something he believes in.

"I think the tricks and technical side is where we can help most," Claus said.

"But for me personally I find the most enjoyment out of seeing all the kids smiling and having a great time and getting encouragement.”
