Exciting new sport kicking off in Kingaroy

LEAGUE TOUCH: If you like football and would like to start getting fit, this brand new sport might be just what you're after.

NRL League Touch is soon to commence at Kingaroy's Red Ants grounds, run by the Kingaroy Touch Football Association.

Fully inclusive and slower than traditional touch football, the innovative sport is being promoted as, 'everyone can play NRL League Touch'.

Kingaroy Touch Football's Rob Taylor said the aim of starting the new competition was to get people of all ages involved.

"The aim is to bring some of the older fellas back,” he said.

The exciting new sport has 'old school' rugby league rules, including markers and kicking in general play.

"You can't do bombs, but you can chip-and-chase or do grubbers,” Mr Taylor said.

Teams are mixed gender and the minimum age of players is 12.

The new NRL League Touch kicks off at Kingaroy Touch Fields on Thursday October 17.

It is a ten week series including finals.

"That's the aim, to keep the season short and sweet,” Mr Taylor said.

"We'll see how it goes and look at running it again.”
