Extreme fire danger warning for Darling Downs

THOSE living in the Darling Downs, Granite Belt, Warrego, Maranoa or Channel Country must prepare for potentially "uncontrollable and fast-moving" fires with temperatures expected to top 40 degrees on Tuesday.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that winds of up to 40kmh and humidity falling to 5% could increase the fire threat.

An extreme fire danger alert is in place for the Channel Country district south-west of Bedourie to Thargomindah, in the Maranoa and Warrego district and the far western parts of the Darling Downs and Granite Belt.

A severe fire danger is in place for the rest of the Channel Country district, including the Maranoa and Warrego areas southwest of Charleville, and for the rest of the Darling Downs and Granite Belt.

The Queensland Fire and Rescue Service and Rural Fire Service each warn that any blaze would move quickly and may be impossible to control.
