Family grateful for support after fatal crash in Bundaberg

THE family of a Bundaberg man killed in a CBD traffic crash have thanked the community for the outpouring of support they have received, describing it as "overwhelming" and "mind-boggling".

Father-of-three and grandfather Stephen Robinson died in hospital Sunday morning after being hit by a car while crossing Bourbong St at about 11.30pm on Saturday.

Yesterday Stephen's adult children, Thomas, Matthew and Samantha Robinson, as well as Thomas's partner Bianca Todd and Matthew's partner Jaimee Watkins, spoke to the NewsMail about the sheer volume of support and condolences they had received since Stephen's death.

"The amount of support has been crazy, overwhelming," Bianca said.

"Just the amount of people we don't even know, people offering support, people offering help."

Stephen's wake will be held at the Club Hotel this Saturday from 5pm - the last place he had a drink on Saturday night. His family said it was a fitting place to remember the man who made friends wherever he went.

Samantha said staff at the Club Hotel had been incredibly generous and deserved a special shout as did her dad's work colleagues.

Stephen's family also thanked the staff at the Bundaberg Hospital in particular one nurse - whose name they do not know - but who stayed for a number of hours after her shift to sit with the family and answer any questions and ease their minds.

The family named so many indivuals they wanted to thank, including Stephen's friend Nathan Arney.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family cover funeral costs at www.gofundme.com/juqef97a
