Farmer goes to extreme measures to get message out - YouTube

BILL Long wants weeds and herbicide-resistant weeds to be something farmers used to know.

The South Australian agronomic consultant, who farms in the Yorke Peninsula, has gone to somewhat extreme measures to help get the message out that herbicide-reliant farming methods are not sustainable.

With guitar in hand and some creative changes to Australian musician Gotye's hit Somebody that I used to know, Mr Long has created  The Wild Radish Song.

"You can get addicted to a certain kind of farming," he begins in the video clip uploaded to YouTube.

He goes on to lament he wished he knew of the consequences of using herbicide for weed control.

Other lyrical genius:

"I'll admit I didn't know the game was nearly over.

"Resistant radish had to cut me off.

"I wish it'd never happened and somehow I could keep on spraying.

"I can't even spray them now.

"Have to kill the bastards with a mouldboard plough.

"Which I'd been more thoughtful then."

The video has been viewed more than 21,000 times since it was uploaded in December.
