Fast format favours Hornets

RUGBY LEAGUE: The Cherbourg Hornets have proven their strength at playing the fast-paced nines format by defeating the Murgon Mustangs 22 points to four.

President of the Hornets, Warren Collins said it was a great performance by the whole team.

"Everyone played really well and it was a good cause to be part of,” he said.

"Everybody was happy with the day.”

The games consisted of nine minute halves with two minutes at half time and teams were rewarded with five points for scoring a try between the posts.

The South Burnett under-16 girls and South Burnett U18s boys side played their regular 80-minute games on the main field. Both teams proved their strength with the girls defeating Hervey Bay 34 points to 18 and the boys winning 54 to 18 over Warwick.

As part of the domestic violence awareness aspect of the day, players were reminded that all games were to be played in good spirit and to avoid any violent confrontations that can sometimes arise.
