Father of three jailed for drug supplies

TREVOR John Cooper was first introduced to methylamphetamine use when he was incarcerated at just 24.

It was this introduction that would lead him to be imprisoned for supplying the drug he began using while already locked up.

Cooper, 32, pleaded guilty in Dalby District Court to two separate charges of supplying the dangerous drug methylamphetamine.

The court heard police executed a search warrant on a home address shared by the defendant on July 25, 2018, where they seized a mobile phone containing text messages detailing two separate transactions and offers to supply methylamphetamine to two customers.

Defence lawyer Jessica Goldie argued the former Dirranbandi local and father of three never actually supplied the drug for its commercial value.

The first instance of supply, dated May 17, 2018, was a supply to a friend with no commercial gain behind it, while there was no actual evidence of the second supply occurring, with the second bout of messages sent on July 23, 2018.

Judge Dennis Lynch urged Cooper to turn away from his unhealthy habits.

"You have a significant history for drug offences,” Mr Lynch said.

"If you keep doing this you'll be locked up for a very long time.”

Cooper was convicted and sentenced to three months imprisonment in addition to the time he was previously serving and is subject to a two year operational period pending his release.
