Federal MP slams Mirani MP Jimmy Pearce's comments

MIRANI MP Jimmy Pearce has slammed Queensland mining companies.

"I am concerned that at this time in the history of coalmining in Queensland I am unable with confidence to point to any mining company that deserves the right to mine," he said.

"It is a shambles at the moment. They need to be pulled back into line and only the government can do that."

The parliamentary attack on the mining industry by the MP could derail much-needed further mining investment and jobs in the Mackay region, according to Federal Member for Dawson George Christensen.

"It is frankly disturbing that Mr Pearce, who represents an electorate with considerable mining interests, should stand up in Parliament and trash not just some, but all mining companies," Mr Christensen said.

"His comment that no mining operation in Queensland deserves its licence to mine is incredible."
