Fire bans extended across Burnett region

A FIRE ban has been extended for the Burnett region due to heightened fire conditions.

The ban applies to all residents in the South Burnett, Cherbourg and the North Burnett council areas.

All open fires are prohibited and all permits to light fires, which have been issued in the designated council areas, have been cancelled under the ban.

The fire ban will be in place until midnight on Friday, October 4, but could be further extended if required.

Anyone travelling for the school holidays is advised to note fire bans are also in place for Bundaberg, Fraser Coast, Gympie, Sunshine Coast and Noosa council areas.

A fire ban has been in place for the South Burnett since September 9.

Gas and electric barbecues may still be used.
