Sunshine Coast school evacuated after fire alarms sound

A SUNSHINE Coast school was evacuated after fire alarms were triggered.

Suncoast Christian College principal Greg Mattiske told the Sunshine Coast Daily the whole college, which has about 800 students, had been evacuated as a precaution.

Fire crews were called about 10.40am amid concerns of a possible fire at the Woombye campus.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson said two units attended, as did Queensland Police.

Mr Mattiske told the Daily just after 11.25am that there was no fire and students had been given the all-clear to return to their classes.

It is believed a fault within the college's alarm system may have triggered the fire alarms.

Further investigations will be carried out.

Firefighters carried out an inspection of the college to establish it was safe before students, teachers and staff were allowed back in.
