FIREFIGHTERS have rescued an elderly man stuck on the roof of his Wilsonton home for three hours.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services and Queensland Ambulance crews were called to the Sampson St property this afternoon with reports an 80-year-old man was stuck on the roof and couldn't get down.

"We were notified a gentleman was stuck on his roof and he had been there for some time," QFES station officer Kent Barron said.

"It appears the gentleman was stuck on his roof and was dehydrated at the time."

Technical rescue technicians on shift mounted the rescue mission to retrieve the man and have him assessed by paramedics.

"We're lucky today to have some technical rescue technicians on shift today and they've managed to do a simple but time-consuming rescue here off the roof," Mr Barron said.

The man was found lying on the roof at the rear of the property.

Mr Barron said it was unclear how and why the man had gotten up there, but urged people to be mindful of exposure to the sun when outdoors.

"In these conditions, or in any conditions, (people) can certainly become dehydrated quickly," he said.

"It's an excellent job by crews today."

The man appeared dehydrated and disoriented when he was retrieved from the roof.

A QAS spokeswoman said the man was taken to Toowoomba Hospital in a stable condition.
