Five rescues has VMR praising boaties for weekend behaviour

VOLUNTEER Marine Rescue crews are praising boaties for their conduct over the Easter weekend as a huge number of boats get on the water.

Urangan's boat ramp was full on Saturday as more than 500 boats took advantage of low winds and sunny conditions.

VMR commodore John Smith said the crew was tasked to five rescues across the weekend

"We've had two boats out of fuel very close to the harbour and the other three were just engine problems," he said.

"No medivacs or anything serious."

Mr Smith said he was "extremely happy" with the number of boaties rescued.

"There were a huge number of boats out on Saturday and Sunday," he said.

"People are heeding the warnings and the safety advice being put out there."

Mr Smith is expecting the number of boats getting out on the water to decrease this week.
