The non-stop rain beat Saturday's 41.6mm drenching. Showers are forecast for the rest of the week.

Coolangatta received 80mm of rain today and gusts of 117km/h were recorded in Longreach.

"Rainfall up to 60mm in an hour has been recorded near the southern border ranges this afternoon," the Bureau of Meteorology said in its warning, issued at 2.31pm.

It is understood the weather system is moving in a southwesterly direction and will not impact Brisbane this afternoon.

The capital city has recorded its wettest March day this year, with 48.8mm of rain falling in the capital city so far today.

The non-stop rain beat Saturday's 41.6mm drenching. Showers are forecast for the rest of the week.

It comes after a week of wild weather which saw heavy downpours and strong winds throughout the state's south.

A blackout in the Redland City Council area today was not weather-related. More than 2,000 homes were left in the dark after a power outage at Capalabla, blamed on broken equipemnt.
