Foodie family’s unique dinner party draws in hundreds

JUST because you're isolated it doesn't mean you can't enjoy a meal with friends.

A Cabarita family has not let the impact of coronavirus affect their positive outlook despite taking a hit financially.

For the past year Sophie Pearce has filmed her husband Nick Pearce while he cooked delicious family meals.

Ms Pearce then uploaded the footage to their social media account with step-by-step instructions.

The pair's Instagram page, Recipearce, has more than 25,000 foodie followers.

Ms Pearce said to help lift the spirits of their social media community, they decided to live-stream a cooking class.

She said about 500 people watched as Mr Pearce cooked carbonara for the family's Sunday dinner.

"People use social media as an escape but now it's all about coronavirus," Ms Pearce said.

"We thought surely we can do something to turn this negative situation into a positive.

"Because no one can get together to have a dinner party, we thought we would get people to cook together with us.

Mr Pearce also owns Tucker - a Casuarina cafe that has had to adapt to takeaway only since the Federal Government's announcement last Sunday.

He said the changes from coronavirus gave businesses a "kick up the bum" to try new ways to make money.

"Small businesses have been so innovative … and are trying new things because they have no choice," Mr Pearce said.

"It's quite exciting, we've created take home meals and a delivery service which we never would have thought of before.

"I feel really bad having to lay off staff, everyone's in the same boat, and the staff have been really understanding,

"I want to do whatever I have to do to keep our customers and the community healthy."

The Pearce's will be live streaming how to make hot cakes this Sunday 8.30am NSW time.
