Footy champ cheers on Burnett cricketers

CRICKET: There was a familiar face in the crowd when South Burnett cricketers Nik Heness and Tom Currin took the pitch in Townsville at the Queensland school sport cricket championships from November 11-15.

North Queensland Cowboy player, and Murgon Mustangs junior, Gavin Cooper provided encouragement to his home side, Wide Bay, at the championships.

Cooper visited supported the under-12 team in the final overs of their last game at the five day championships.

The team opened their campaign at the championships with a 94 run win over Peninsula.

Tom made his presence felt in the field taking three catches and Nik succeeded with the ball taking one wicket for three runs.

Wide Bay continued their winning form defeating Capricornia by 49 runs.

Nik took three wickets for nine runs off six overs and Tom took one wicket and one catch.

Met North proved to be too strong for the Wide Bay side winning with three wicket in hand.

The South Burnett duo continued to be key in Wide Bay's bowling attack with Nik claiming two wickets and Tom dismissing one batsmen.

The Wide Bay team was 30 runs short of claiming victory against the Darling Downs side.

Tom claimed one wicket and Nik claimed three wickets and scored 13 runs not out.

Nik scored the winning run off the second last ball of the innings to secure victory over Northern.

He also claimed two wickets for 22 runs off eight overs and Tom claimed one wicket.
