'For the kids': Futsal club giving kids a chance to score
IN RECENT years, South Burnett kids have excelled in representative futsal teams and Tracey Clegg and Cathy Gartner, from South Burnett Futsal Club, are working hard to continue this success.
"The kids are loving it and they are the ones that we are doing it for,” Clegg said.
"We are looking forward to the continued growth of futsal.”
Every Tuesday and Wednesday the Federation of Australian Futsal accredited club runs training for junior players from 5-15 years-old and a competitive senior competition on Tuesday's at Saint Mary's College Kingaroy.
For Gartner, giving kids whose family may not be able to afford to play other club sports a chance to play is important.
The club does the canteen at Kingaroy Speedway and offers parents who genuinely can't afford to play a subsidy for volunteering.
Accepting Get Started Vouchers has also been a game-changer for the club.
"It is really helpful for a lot of families. It has made a huge difference,” Gartner said.
Players can still sign-up to play this season and the club will continue playing through winter.
The club is grateful for the support of Ken Mills Toyota, Anthony Treloar Plastering, Gavin's Carpet Care and Restorations and Raine and Horne Kingaroy.
