Ford ramps up pressure on Toyota with product onslaught

THE new Ford Mustang coupe is making its Australian debut today as the Blue Oval launches an all-out attack on the nation's number one marque, Toyota.

Ford plans to refresh its entire line-up by 2017 and has made no secret of the fact that Toyota is in its crosshairs next year.

While revealing details on its new additions in the past month, Ford has constantly compared its products with direct Toyota opponents.

The much-anticipated launch of the Mustang next year will help ease the loss of Australian made offerings, including the Falcon and Territory.

More than 15,000 "hand raisers" have registered interest in the Mustang while some have even placed deposits without knowing the price or drivetrain options.

But Ford is already talking a great game as it rides the popularity pony leading into 2015.

In a press release about the 2015 Mondeo, Ford said  it will "feature at least 10 advanced features not available on Camry, including a diesel model that will be more fuel efficient than Camry Hybrid"

Then there's the refreshed Kuga whcih will arrive early next year. "With a new 178 kW 2.0 EcoBoost engine on high series models that offers 30% more power than Toyota's RAV4".

Also on the hit-list was the Toyota HiLux. "A freshened version of the tough, capable and Australian-created Ranger will arrive in 2015 to build on its momentum after cutting Toyota Hilux's sales lead by 38% since 2011."

Toyota did not want to comment on the issue.
