UPDATE, MONDAY, 1.30PM: RECOVERY crews have managed to free the skeleton of a Fraser Island tour bus stuck on Fraser Island.

The bus became stuck on Friday afternoon trying to cross the Yidney Rocks section of the island.

By Saturday morning, high swells and waves had stripped the vehicle bare.

Earth-moving equipment recovered what remained of the bus this morning.

It took two-and-a-half hours to pry the vehicle out of the sand.

UPDATE: Unfavourable swells have delayed efforts to recover a tour bus bogged on Fraser Island.

The bus was stranded Friday afternoon after attempting to cross the Yidney Rocks section.

Passengers were forced to abandon the vehicle. No-one was injured.

By Saturday morning, the bus had been reduced to a skeleton after being pounded by waves overnight.

Recovery crews attempted to retrieve  the bus but a Fraser Experience Tours spokesman said their efforts were delayed by "unfavourable swells".

EARLIER: MOTHER nature has slowly but surely unleashed its fury on a tourist bus stranded in the sea at Fraser Island overnight.

The tour bus spent 24 hours being pummelled by rough seas after it became stuck at Yidley Rocks yesterday afternoon.

Recovery crews are attempting to remove the wreckage.

EARLIER: THE treacherous rocks on Fraser Island claimed another victim yesterday, a bus full of tourists caught well out of their depth.

The tour bus was attempting to cross the Yidney Rocks section before it came unstuck.

There's ways to cross the difficult section, and there's ways to not.

This lot did the latter, but they'll hardly be the last.
