Free event to plant seeds for greener future

GET your hands dirty at the South Burnett Regional Council’s next event.

Next month, council will hold a free compost and form farming community workshop to teach people how they can establish and maintain a healthy backyard.

Whether you want to learn more about compost bins or worm farms, the workshop on Thursday, November 7 will be full of handy tips and tricks.

A council spokesman said as about half of the waste generated by the average Australian household was organic waste, the majority of it could be diverted from landfill through composting or worm farming at home.

“Composting organic household waste is not just beneficial for the environment, but also for your own backyard,” the spokesman said.
“The high-quality, natural fertiliser you can make at home will improve fertility and water retention in your soil to give your plants a natural boost.

“Come along and see for yourself how you can easily get started in your own backyard.”

The workshop will be held at the Kingaroy Town Hall Reception Room and registrations are required: call 3457 2400 or email SBRCWasteEd@envirocom.com.au.

For further information regarding the project, contact council’s Environment and Waste team on 4189 9100 or email info@southburnett.qld.gov.au.
