Full steam ahead for Brisbane Valley rail trail
ENCOURAGING more people to get out onto the Brisbane Valley rail trail is a top priority for the Users Association Committee in 2019.
There will be ample opportunity for people to get involved with 10 events already scheduled from Australia Day through to October.
"In 2019 we intend to focus on more improvement projects, but the most important will be more people out enjoying the rail trail, every day,” Paul Heymans from the committee said.
"Specifically, we'd like to increase the number of overnight stays in the region by attracting more people from other parts of Australia and overseas.”
The events are proving to be popular with the 44 kilometre ride on January 26 catering for 100 riders booked out.
The preparation for the year ahead follows on from a successful 2018 which saw the completion of projects to improve the experience on the trail.
Adding flow through grids between Blackbutt and Yarraman was among the top achievements for the trail as well as the completion of the Toogoolawah to Moore section, renovation and decking of Lockyer Creek Bridge and the trail playing host to 17 cycling events.
The user association will continue to push for improvements in 2019.
"We'd also like to see the decking of four more bridges, surface improvements in a few areas, and flow through grids beside all gates,” Mr Heymans said.
