A CAST of colourful characters have dotted the South Burnett this week as our students joined thousands across the country to celebrate Book Week.

Lego men, Queen Elsa, the Tardis from Dr Who and Where's Wally were among the creative costumes on display by the youngsters and their teachers at Kingaroy State School as they celebrated the joy of reading.

The school gathered in the assembly hall this morning so everyone could show off their costume creations for this year's event which had the theme, Reading is my Superpower.

One by one, each class paraded down the middle aisle with their teacher to showcase their quirky looks.

Kingaroy State School principal Russell Dennis said reading was needed now more than ever to encourage students to dream big and inspire them for the future.
