Hopes rise as Aldi expands
HOPES for North Queensland being a future location for Aldi Australia are rising with the German retail giant planning a major expansion across the country this year.
Aldi, which opened its 500th store in Australia in November last year, is set to open a further 32 stores including eight In Queensland.
In December, a spokesman for the discount chain told the Bulletin Aldi had no current plans to bring the discount store to Townsville and North Queensland.
However, confirmation of Aldi's plans has heightened speculation that Townsville could still figure in its expansion.
