Girl hit by car at Toombul, Brisbane

A TEENAGE girl is in a critical condition in hospital after she was struck by a car in Brisbane.

Emergency services were called to the collision on Sandgate Rd at Toombul about 8.05am.

Paramedics were on scene and took the girl to Lady Cilento Children's Hospital. Police this afternoon confirmed she was in a critical condition.

"Initial inquiries indicate ... a teenage girl has been struck by a car on Sandgate Road at the intersection for the Toombul Shopping Centre access," police said.

It's believed the incident was witnessed by several school students, who were talking to police at the scene afterwards.

It's understood the Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the incident and police have appealed for anyone who may have dashcam footage or anyone who witnessed the crash to contact police.

City-bound traffic on Sandgate Rd was backed-up after the collision but the scene was cleared by 9.45am.

Traffic delays were also seen in Brisbane's south this morning, after a gas leak at Greenslopes.

The gas leak was at Cornwall St. Police advised drivers to avoid the area until at least 1pm.
