Glowing display at unique golf event

WHEN the sun goes down on a Friday evening, the last thing you would expect to see is a group of golfers walking the fairways and lining up their birdie putts.

But that is exactly what will be happening at the Blackbutt Golf Club tonight.

The Timbertowners Cricket Club is hosting the night golf event to raise funds for their practice cricket pitch.

Assistant Treasurer for Timbertowners, Kathy Gilliland said the unique idea to play golf at night was going to be a heap of fun.

"They have a little glow stick in the ball,” she said.

"There will be glow in the dark markers along the fairways and each player will wear a lit up necklace.”

The Timbertowners cricket club are enjoying a resurgence at the club after having been out of the local competition for eight years.

They made the ultimate comeback last year after merging with the Yarraman club and winning the grand final.

The reigning champions are hoping the nigh golf fund raiser will go a long way towards raising the funds for their new practice pitch.

"We currently have a portable pitch that the boys have to roll out every week,” Ms Gilliland said.

"The pitch will be there all the time so it is something else for the community to use.”

The cricket club assistant treasurer said preparing the night golf event took a lot of specific planning and timing.

"You have to wait for a new moon so you are very confined to the time,” she said.

Ms Gilliland thanked the Blackbutt Golf Club for their assistance and support in putting this fun event together.

"It is not going to be too serious,” she said.

"The beauty of night golf is no one can see all of the air swings.”

The Timbertowners fund raising night golf event will start from 7pm on Friday December 12 at the Blackbutt Golf Club.
